A really beautiful historic cinema that used to be a Yiddish theatre, worth a visit just for the stunning interior. Seeing a movie here however was an experience I have mixed feelings about. We sat in the corner of the mezzanine and the view of the screen was not so good, it was really warped and I struggled to see the opposite side of the screen. The sound was also off, as the background music of the movie was playing way too loud, even during the dialogues, so I couldn't hear the dialogue properly. Don't know if this had to do with our position in the room or the movie itself though, but never experienced something like this before. On the plus side, the seats were comfortable, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the snacks were good, delicious buttery popcorn. I would go again but pick seats more in the middle of the mezzanine if possible.

Grand movie theater in Moorish style, designed by Harrison Wiseman (1878-1945). It was opened in 1926 and largely served as a Yiddish playhouse from 1926 until 1945. We were fortunate to see Megalopolis by Francis Ford Coppola in the theater's main hall. The theater is now the East Village outpost of the storied Angelika movie theater.

This is definitely a quaint movie theater located close to the second avenue stop on the L train. We came here to watch a special showing of the phantom menace which was great! The thing I love about this theater is that they do showings like this often for anniversaries and special occasions. The facilities are old and the bathrooms need some fixing but overall a decent movie experience. Oh, also a large bottle of water here costs $7 so do with that information as you wish…

I like the Village East by Angelika for their revival movie options. I've caught some older movies on the big screen there that I've always wanted to see in the theater (or that I wanted to see again in the theater after all these years.). The building is an older, historical building in the East Village, and it's got "old New York building charm". The theaters are medium sized (there are certainly smaller revival movie theaters nearby) and there is a good variety in the refreshments. I like the place and they have a great variety of good movies in revival.
